Italy earthquake: Death toll over 240 amid rescue efforts
The death toll in the Italian earthquake of 241 with the continuation of thousands of men rescue efforts to find survivors.
It is believed that dozens trapped in the ruins of Amatrice,
Accumoli and Pescara del Tronto, in central Italy mountainous region.
Rescuers advised journalists and passers-by to leave Amatrice quickly, as “the town of collapse,” says Ginny Hill.
New cracks appeared in the city hospital after a strong aftershock.
Officials played down the death toll after giving the earlier figure of 247.
Continuing the search for survivors throughout the night,
amid hundreds of tremors and aftershocks shook the already damaged buildings.
More than 4,300 rescue workers were using heavy lifting equipment and their bare hands.

The Minister of Health, and many of the victims were children, and there were warnings could put the death toll could rise.
He said 184 officials – and the death toll was the heaviest in Amatrice. Another 46 died in Orquata, and 11 in Accumoli.
