NEW YORK (AFP) – sequel to Pixar’s “Finding Dory” received $ 9.2 million in previews Thursday, a record for an animated film.
Strong start to outweigh the best opening night last Thursday from last year’s $ 6.2 million “disciples.” In such a pace, “Finding Dory” should top $ 100 million at the box-office weekend and is likely to pass “Game Story 3” the biggest opening of Pixar. The film opened in 2010 with $ 110.3 million.
If moviegoers really turn out for “Finding Dory”, it can challenge (without inflation) animated film of “Shrek the Third” record, which debuted with $ 121.6 million in 2007.
The opening previews for one night midnight shows. But they have in recent years was moved up to earlier on Thursday evening, making it possible for family-friendly films to take advantage of eager moviegoers.
