France church attack: Priest killed in hostage-taking near Rouen
The priest was killed in an attack by two armed men in his church in a suburb of the city of Rouen in northern France.
The attackers entered the church in Saint-Etienne du Rouvray During the Mass, the priest,
Father Jacques Hamel 0.84, and four other people hostage.
Police surrounded the church at a later time.
said the French television shots were fired.
Each of the hostage-takers were killed now.
French President Francois Hollande said the
men claimed to be from the so-called Islamic State (IS).
Speaking in Saint-Etienne du Rouvray he committed the attackers “cowardly assassination”
and that France is the fight “by all means”.
The news agency said Amaq is linked to “two soldiers of the Islamic State”
carried out the attack.
Pope Francis criticized the “pain and horror of this senseless violence.”
A spokesman for the French Ministry of the Interior.
Pierre Henry Brandet one of the hostages was seriously injured.
He said the hostage-takers were “neutralized” after coming out of the church.
Police are now looking church to search for explosives.
