Using the old technology checkouts at the supermarkets can be very frustrating, including experience with unexpected items in the bagging area’ Dramas. People also have to wait for so long to get their items packed.
Nowadays Panasonic has joined the race of automate grocery store checkouts. As Recently Amazon launched its Cashier-free convenience store to make shopping easier for people but The Panasonic automatic shopping basket has made it easier for people to shop. The Japan-based electronics maker today showed its own solution with a checkout machine that can check and detect items in your shopping bag, tally the bills, and automatically bag them.
The concept is to help save the time and improve self-checkout machine rather than eliminate the need for human employees within the stores. Panasonic’s concept is currently being tested at a Lawson convenience store in Osaka, Japan where Panasonic is headquartered. The company is expecting to complete testing in February, with a wider roll out in 2018 if preliminary trials are successful.Smart basket system detects items in a basket, calculates the bill and bag them up. Sensors are installed in the shopping basket.Customer pay at an automatic self-registration machine which also bags the items. When you’re done shopping it already knows your total all you have to do is pay the bill manually.
According to Panasonic and Lawson it will fully be operational in February 2018 soon. This new checkout system isn’t yet widely available and it’s being tested out at a Lawson store adjacent to its Osaka headquarters in Japan. The year is not declared right now if or when the system will ever be rolled out across the UK. Although this technology was designed specifically to save money on store operation cost, Lawson doesn’t want to completely eliminate human employees for their establishment, but technology like this will completely speed up the weekly shopping trips. This basket system makes shopping way more easier than ever.
