Jacoby Brissett was not exceptional in his first start for the New England Patriots,
but he succeeded in the game efficiently and helped secure the 27-0 win against the Houston Texans.
Brissett was filling in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo, who was starting in place of suspended Tom Brady,
were both Garoppolo Brissett and able to intervene in this season as in the beginning and make enough plays to win games.
This is par for the course for the Patriots, Bill Belichick’s. Belichick during the period, and his astrologers are 6-0 in their first career starts.
That includes Todd Philcox, Eric Zeier, Tom Brady, Matt Cassel, then the two quarterbacks this season, Garoppolo and Brissett.
His stats do not win mind-blowing, but Brissett played well. Passed for 103 yards
and added 48 yards on the ground. Brissett did not have any touchdown passes, but he also ended with no objection.
Rob Gronkowski was inactive for the game, but he was not much of a factor. He said he was in good health completely,
and he was a quality target for Brissett in his first start in the peak periods against the defense of Texas well.
New England did not need to rely on the passing game a lot, though. A comfortable margin throughout the game, the Patriots were able to run things on the ground.
First came the evening of Patriot missiles landing on the 27-yard Brissett operation that was a thing of beauty.
Two others also came on the ground, of LeGarrette Blount, who achieved 105 yards. Patriots finished with 185 total yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns.
Against the Patriots, Texas looked much more like the team that got beat 30-0 by the heads of the playoffs last season instead of the team that beat the heads of 19-12 last week.
The Houston offense stagnant and did not even make it past the line 50 yards until late in the third quarter. Brock Osweiler was only 196 yards away and not landing with one objection.
Making a difference bags in this game. Even with a dominant defensive player as J.J. Watts, Texas was able to dismiss Brissett only once in the whole game, and it was not a watt player who did it.
This is not uncommon for the watt, according to ESPN Stats and Information, the Patriots are the only team Watt has zero sacks after playing against them at least three times in his career.
Patriots, on the other hand, was able to drop two of the bags on Osweiler, and they pressed him regularly.
The other factor shifts. The Patriots did not turn the ball over at all, and Texas gave up two fumble on the kickoff returns, in addition to intercepting Osweiler’s.
Patriot missiles considered unstoppable with the middle third series
and fill in for Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo. Texas, on the other hand, it seemed completely defeated as they were closed for the first time since December 2003.
