Happy Planet Index 2016 has been released by the New Economic Foundation (NEF). Pakistan ranked index in 36 out of 140 countries far from several welfare states all over the world and higher. Pakistan and even ranked among the top in some of the sub-categories.
New Economic Foundation (NEF) is a UK-based organization which works to promote the social, economic and environmental justice.
It aims to bring about a revolution in the world economy research center
in a way that sustainability and equity, stability and happiness can be increased.
This is something that claims to NEF, missing even one of the richest countries in the world.
NEF claims that the current economic systems are not suitable for dealing with global problems
such as climate change and financial instability.
The company plans to start a new way of thinking that encourage high-quality research
and new ideas to change the current economic system.
Happy Planet Index (HPI) is a ranking system to the list of countries on the basis of sustainability
and well-being if their citizens.
Some of the more wealthy countries rank very low in the HPI,
instead of the third world countries to take the first places where it matters most.
HPI provides direction to the countries that it is possible to live a good life without damaging the planet.
This classification is based on four basic standards;
the welfare of citizens and satisfaction (according to Gallup) data,
life expectancy for a person in a particular country (based on United Nations data),
not equality of results in terms of the happiness of citizens and the length of their lives,
and the effect that every resident in the country environment (based on the global footprint network data).
And considered other factors, the per capita gross domestic product of this kind,
the Gini index (measuring the difference between the rich and the poor) and the population of the countries also have the world rankings.
Results Standings reveal that many countries have a long time to deliver its citizens are happy life while staying within environmental limits.
Asia-Pacific region and Latin America leading the way, while some are classified as one of the richest countries is very low.
Pakistan out of the 36 countries ranked 140 with HPI result of 31.5.
He said the life expectancy of 65.7 years in Pakistan, which is 102nd rates in the world, while the wellness category gets a 5.1 out of 10, 78 of all countries.
I got inequality index is very low 40%, the 120 in the world. However, in terms of ecological footprint, Pakistan, three out of the 140 with a rating of just 0.8 global hectares per capita.
Pakistan’s GDP per capita is about $ 1,000 annually while the population is listed, 177400000.
There was no Jenny available to Pakistan so that data is not considered.
As I mentioned before, it topped the rankings of Asian and Latin American countries.
Costa Rica tops the charts with a degree HPI of 44.7, followed by Mexico and Colombia, Vanuatu and Vietnam. Check out the top 15 states below:
Switzerland tops wellness category with 7.8, Hong Kong tops the category with a life expectancy of 83.6 years,
the Netherlands top the ranking of inequality with 4%, Haiti tops the category’s ecological footprint of 0.6 global hectares.
Australia ranked 105th, while the United States occupies in the 108.
As can be seen from the figures,
there is still much room for improvement especially for the richer countries that ranked very low mostly because of bad environmental impacts on the planet.
